About the school
About Madinatul Ilm
A Shia (Twelver / Ithna Ashari) Islamic Saturday school in southeast Calgary, raising our children in knowledge, faith, and character.
Madinatul Ilm School is a Shia (Twelver / Ithna Ashari) Islamic Saturday school in southeast Calgary — the weekend school of Al Zahra Learning Center. We teach Arabic language, Quran, and Islamic studies to students from grade 1 to grade 12, in the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (s) and his purified Ahlul Bayt (a.s.).
Our name comes from the words of the Prophet (s): “I am the City of Knowledge, and Ali is its gate.” We aim to open a gate for our children to their faith, their language, and their identity — so that, growing up in Canada, they are confident in their belief and proud of who they are.
Everyone in Calgary's community is welcome, and we are glad to teach any family who wishes to enrol their children.
What We Stand For
In the way of the Ahlul Bayt (a.s.)
We teach aqeedah, fiqh, and akhlaq in the Shia (Twelver / Ithna Ashari) tradition, with a clear method children love.
A safe, loving environment
Small classes, teachers from the community, and congregational salah every school day.
The language of the Quran
Arabic reading, writing, and conversation — because understanding the Quran begins with understanding its language.
One community
Madinatul Ilm is the Saturday school of Al Zahra Learning Center — part of a community growing together.
