Madinatul Ilm — Calgary

Islamic Studies for Kids

Belief, fiqh, character, and seerah in the way of the Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) — at a Shia Islamic Saturday school in Calgary, for grades 1–12.

Madinatul Ilm School offers Islamic studies for kids in Calgary in the Shia (Twelver / Ithna Ashari) tradition. Children learn their beliefs, fiqh, akhlaq, and the lives of the Prophet (s) and the Imams (a.s.) in a warm, age-appropriate way that builds their Islamic identity and roots them in their faith as they grow up in Canada.

What makes our program distinct is that it is taught in the Twelver (Ithna Ashari) tradition — not a generic “Islamic studies” class. Children learn the usul and furu of the faith, the practical fiqh of wudhu, salat, and fasting, and the lives of the fourteen Ma‘sumeen (a.s.), using age-appropriate Shia curriculum books (free to download on our books page). The aim is character: that what a child knows shapes how they live.
